About me

“In yoga and creative practice I have found a space that I feel will be there for me at every stage of life.” Fran Newman

“I distinctly remember when, encouraged by friends, I entered a yoga space for the first time, dimly lit by a candle, the teacher sitting in silence, and I thought to myself, I think there’s something here for me…”

That was in 1987. With time I became a committed yoga practitioner. I started teaching in 2012 having completed 200 hours training with Yoga Alliance. Under the guidance of Judith Hanson Lasater (student of B.K.S. Iyengar), I continued my learning through specialised trainings and assistant teaching. My relationship with Judith has been instrumental in shaping my understanding of wellbeing through yoga and Restorative Yoga in particular. I not only learned through formal training but also by working as an assistant to Judith, as she shared her specialism and wealth of expertise training yoga teachers in restorative practices.

Also in 2012 I met artist, Debi-Sara Wilkinson, and began to further explore my creativity in relation to watercolour and nature. This relationship was instrumental in forming my love of watercolour painting, textiles, and other mediums. What began as curiosity slowly unfolded into a practice of observation. Sitting with colour, watching how it moves and softens, I found a similar quiet presence to that I had experienced in yoga — a space where there is no need to push, only to respond. My exploration of watercolour has been self-led, shaped by time, patience, and a willingness to let go of outcome. Through this practice, I have come to understand creativity not as something to achieve, but as something to allow.

In sharing watercolour with others, I offer it in the same spirit as my yoga teaching — gently, without expectation, and with an emphasis on rest, attention, and compassion. A space to notice, to soften and to reconnect with the natural rhythm of life.

I set up Soulful Nature in 2018 with the aim of guiding others in the practice of yoga and creative practice, sharing with them the knowledge and wisdom that has been shared with me. My work is upheld by 3 pillars: observation, support, and compassion.
